ARTIST STATEMENT
I work on paper to depict animals and people and landscapes in narrative moments. My toolbox consists of mark-making techniques developed over time: I use impressions from hand-carved stamps to form textures and trees, birds and fish; I use thick grounds of oil pastel, scraped through with lines to form water and clouds; I use chalk, graphite, crayon and block-printing inks. My subject matter derives from my east-coast roots and western life, fueled by intuition and subconscious undercurrents. I want my drawings to have visual excitement and a sense of mystery.
